I’m Anna Snowball, a UK-based filmmaker working at the borders of fiction and nonfiction. I tell character-driven stories about outsiders and underdogs chasing big dreams. My films blend unique access and observational filmmaking with mixed-media collage and touches of magical realism.

I have recently been named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow 2025 and served as a juror for the International Emmy Awards. My latest short, Iranian Yellow Pages, won the Netflix Documentary Talent Fund, was nominated for a Grierson Award and Critics’ Circle Award, and screened at BFI London, Big Sky, and AFI Fest.

I’m now developing my first feature documentary, Inside Is Chaos, produced by Julia Ton (Grand Theft Hamlet), with support from First Hand Films. I also have two fiction scripts in development.

Other notable shorts include:

Through my company Snow Films, I’ve produced nonfiction shorts for over a decade, with commissions from BBC One, Channel 4, CNN, NOWNESS, and BBC Radio 4. I also direct commercial work for clients including Fairy, Red Bull, Essity, and the British Red Cross, represented by Fresh Film.

I’m an alumna of the NFTS Directing Documentary MA, where I now teach as a visiting tutor. I’ve spoken on panels at Raindance, Aesthetica, and BFI London, and moderated Q&As at Big Sky.
